JULY 2024
"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." —Steve Jobs
Message from Academic Team
This month, we want to spotlight the incredible gift of reading – a gift that transcends age and enriches lives at every stage. Reading offers a universe of possibilities from the wide-eyed wonder of a pre-primary discovering the alphabet to the seasoned adult delving into a complex novel.
For our youngest learners, picture books open doors to imagination and ignite a love for language. The rhythm of rhymes, the vibrant illustrations, and the act of turning pages together foster a connection with stories that becomes the foundation for future literacy.
As students progress, reading becomes a gateway to knowledge. Textbooks open the door to academic success, while fictional adventures expand their understanding of different cultures, historical periods, and human emotions.
Reading is a source of lifelong learning, personal growth, and pure enjoyment for adults. It allows us to unwind, explore new topics, and stay connected to the world around us.
Here at Diya, we're committed to fostering a love of reading in all our students, from pre-primary to adult learners.
But nurturing this love extends beyond the classroom walls. Parents and caregivers play a vital role in creating a culture of reading at home. Here are a few tips to spark your child's interest:
· Start Early: Read to your child from a young age. Let them see the joy you find in books.
· Make it Fun: Choose books that pique their curiosity, with vibrant illustrations and engaging stories.
· Create a Reading Routine: Dedicate some time each day, even just 15 minutes, to snuggle up and read together.
· Lead by Example: Let your child see you reading for enjoyment. Talk about the books you're reading.
· Visit the Library/Bookstore: Make regular trips to the library/bookstore a fun outing. Let them explore and choose books they're excited about.
· Connect Reading to Life: Talk about stories while on car rides, at bedtime, or while doing chores. Engage in activities related to the books you read.
Remember, reading is a journey, not a destination. By setting a positive example and creating a stimulating environment, you can help your child develop a love of reading that will enrich their lives for years to come.
Happy reading!
